Sudan & Water:
Sudan gets a lot of rain but not enough to help their water crisis. Only two percent of Sudan’s clean water is up for domestic use. Most of Sudan’s underground water is shared with other countries. A lot of Sudan’s water is affected with the Guinea Worm Disease. This disease comes from the drinking water and is easily passed around from person to person.
Insufficient access to clean water can result in kids being uneducated because of the long commute to the nearest water source. When people drink dirty water they often catch a disease that could possibly be fatal. With access to water hunger is reduced and schools can provide food by growing crops in gardens, reducing costs. Water can also break the cycle of poverty little by little.
Many organizations help Sudan. One organization is The Water Project which has twenty missions to build wells in Sudan that are either in development or have been completed. http://thewaterproject.org/water-in-crisis-sudanAnother organization is Save the Children. Save the Children conducts programs for children and families affected by conflict, displacement, extreme poverty, hunger and an absence of basic services. Many of the children and families they serve are among the most hardest to reach. http://www.savethechildren.org/site/c.8rKLIXMGIpI4E/b.6150471/k.CAAA/Sudan.htm
